Philip David Charles Collins werd om 00:05 uur op 30 januari 1951 in Chiswick (Londen) geboren
en al een paar jaar later is een blikken trommel de aanzet tot een leven waarin drums
een centrale rol zullen spelen.
Hoewel zijn ouders hem liever als acteur op het toneel zijn brood zien verdienen
en hijzelf ook graag topsport had bedreven,
bleken de drumstokken niet meer uit zijn handen en zijn hart weg te slaan.



In 1978 na een tour met Genesis kondigde zijn eerste vrouw (Andrea) aan dat zij wilde scheiden van Phil Collins.
Phil Collins verwerkte zijn verdriet in de vorm van het schrijven van nummers.
De nummers kwamen uiteindelijk op zijn eerste solo CD: FACE VALUE
In 1996 bracht Phil Collins ook zijn nieuwe en tevens laatste album tot nu toe uit namelijk: 'Dance into the light'.
